CHALLENGES IN EDUCATION
- Most parents travel long distances for schools in the central region, exposing children to risks like accidents and theft.
- Good schools in the central region are expensive and often unaffordable for parents from the North; Mentor S.S offers a high-quality alternative.
- Privately owned schools often prioritize profit over essential learning materials and human resource development.

- Purchased 250 single-seater desks and 250 laboratory stools in 4 years.
- Acquisition of laboratory equipment, chemicals, and reagents worth 60,000,000/= in 4 years.
- Purchased 380 triple-decker beds in four years.
- Purchased 40 computers for school and student use.
- Installed 6 water tanks for washing, bathing, and drinking.
- Constructed energy-saving stoves for staff and students meals.
- Extended electricity to boys and girls dormitories.
- Beautified school compound with grasses and flowers.
- Acquired school license and certificate of registration.

- Installed motorized safe water system for students and community.
- Purchased 800 plastic seats for main hall and a 14-seater van.
School Development Plans
- Expand school land to accommodate projects like poultry, crop production, piggery, etc.

Staffing
The school has a total of 91 staff members on monthly payroll with a salary scale ranging from 200,000/= to 900,000/=.
- Teaching staff: 51 (43 males, 08 females); 41 full-time, 10 part-time; all professionally qualified and registered with MOES; 5 are Grade V, rest are graduates.
- Support staff: 6 Askaris, 8 Cooks, 1 Bursar, 1 Cashier, 2 Secretaries, 2 Cleaners, 2 Wardens, 1 Nurse, 1 Matron, 1 Storeman, 1 Laboratory Assistant, 1 Librarian.
- Chaplains: 1 Catholic, 1 Anglican
Academics
Teaching and learning are progressing smoothly, with good syllabus coverage across all classes. Key achievements include:
- Completion of syllabus in S.4 and S.6 by the end of the second term every year.
- Purchase of essential textbooks worth 30,000,000/= to aid learning and research.
- Successful 5-day study tours in Western and Eastern Uganda during third-term holidays annually.
- Registration of candidates for four sets of mock exams: Wakisha Joint Mocks, Entebbe Joint Mocks (EJEB), Jinja Joint Examinations Board (JJEB), and ASSHU Western Mocks.
Co-curricular Activities
The school promotes learners' talents through various extracurricular activities such as football, volleyball, netball, cricket, badminton, debating, math club, and technovation club. Notable achievements include:
- Best school in debate in Lango sub-region.
- Second best in Post Primary football competition (2018).
- Best in technovation (2018, national recognition in 2020).
- Best in regional football (2023–2025) and 4th best in the country in 2025.
- Second best in technovation nationally in 2025.
- Best in mathematics quiz contest in 2025.
Conclusion
With the dedication and effort of our staff, Mentor Secondary School has consistently achieved strong performance in both UCE and UACE over the last three years.
